Lewisburg, Pa. – Fordham's
Tristen Knoflick posted a hat-trick to claim Player of the Game accolades and led seven Fordham University scorers as the Rams recorded a 12-5 defeat of Johns Hopkins University in the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championship Third Place game at Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium.
Fordham built a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Rams pushed the margin to 7-3 by the conclusion of the second quarter prior to outscoring the Blue Jays by a 4-1 count in the third quarter to grab an 11-4 margin going into the final eight minutes of action.
Each team score once in the final frame for the final score of 12-5 in favor of the Rams.
Knoflick was aided in the cause for Fordham by pairs of goals from
Cameron Shewchuck,
Ian Watson, and
R.J. Simmons, while the trio of
Jake Miller-Tolt,
Magnus Sims, and
Cole Donnelly combined for the remainder of the Rams' offensive production. In net, goalie
Alex Jahns turned aside five shots and combined with his defenders to force JHU into a one-for-14 shooting performance on man-up opportunities.
Following the conclusion of the championship, Simmons and Miller-Tolt were named to the MAWPC All-Championship Team.
With the win, Fordham finished its season at 16-13.
