Bronx, N.Y. – UMass' Ty Goncalves had a goal an assist, while Josh Jess also scored as the Minutemen topped the Fordham Rams, 2-0, at Jack Coffey Field on Wednesday afternoon.
With the loss, Fordham dropped to 7-6-3 overall, 4-2-1 in the Atlantic 10, while UMass improved to 7-7-3 on the year, 4-1-2 in the league.
UMass came with the pressure early and often, and if not for a pair of defender saves by
Cole Stevenson and
Owen Lawrence, the score would have favored the Minutemen, but the game was scoreless over the first 54 minutes of action.
The Minutemen though finally broke through in the 55
th minute, when Fordham goalkeeper
Rashid Nuhu fouled a UMass player in the box, awarding a penalty kick to the Minutemen. Ty Goncalves took the penalty kick and scored to the right side of the net for his fourth of the year.
UMass made it 2-0 about five minutes later, as Goncalves' corner kick was headed into the netted by Josh Jess for his fourth of the season.

Fordham wasn't able to muster much offensively, as Jorge Becerra made three saves for the Minutemen to record the shutout.
Rashid Nuhu had one save for Fordham.
