Men’s Soccer Falls to UMass, 2-0

Rams in Action against St. Bonaventure on Saturday for Senior Day

Bronx, N.Y. – UMass' Ty Goncalves had a goal an assist, while Josh Jess also scored as the Minutemen topped the Fordham Rams, 2-0, at Jack Coffey Field on Wednesday afternoon.

With the loss, Fordham dropped to 7-6-3 overall, 4-2-1 in the Atlantic 10, while UMass improved to 7-7-3 on the year, 4-1-2 in the league.

UMass came with the pressure early and often, and if not for a pair of defender saves by Cole Stevenson and Owen Lawrence, the score would have favored the Minutemen, but the game was scoreless over the first 54 minutes of action.

The Minutemen though finally broke through in the 55th minute, when Fordham goalkeeper Rashid Nuhu fouled a UMass player in the box, awarding a penalty kick to the Minutemen.  Ty Goncalves took the penalty kick and scored to the right side of the net for his fourth of the year.

UMass made it 2-0 about five minutes later, as Goncalves' corner kick was headed into the netted by Josh Jess for his fourth of the season.
