Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham volleyball team's season came to an end on Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 loss against second-place Rhode Island. The Rams finish the 2016-17 campaign with an 11-18 overall record and a 4-10 mark in Atlantic 10 play, both highs in wins under head coach
Gini Ullery.
"All year we've known this team had fight and we saw it in the first and third sets today," Ullery remarked, "Rhode Island is a strong team and when we were disciplined, we were right there with them. This young group has learned a lot this season."

Fordham struggled to contain Rhody's powerful attack, as the visitors hit at a .417 and .444 clip in the first and second sets, respectively, with 17 kills in the first set alone. Rhode Island limited their errors, committing just three combined across the opening two frames. The Rams battled coming out of the long break and led late into the third set but Rhode Island kept its composure and mounted a comeback to notch the sweep.

Senior
Kristen Ostach, in her final match, posted a team-high eight kills (.357), followed by
Olivia Fairchild's six,
Breanna Jones' five, and three others with at least three. Junior co-captain
Emily Fronk tallied 25 assists and four digs and
Grace Muller dug out 17 balls.
"I, and my staff, have enjoyed watching Kristen grow so much this year and appreciate all her hard world that she has give nto the program over the last four years."

Fairchild's rise up the single season ranks ended on Sunday with the freshman falling just short of Val Bosticco's mark for third-most kills in a season. Fairchild racked up the fourth-most in school history, 477, but set the record for kills per set average by a wide margin, besting Tasha Johnston's old record of 3.82 with a 4.30 clip. Fairchild also racked up the fourth-most attempts (1,191) and joint-eighth most aces (57). The Phoenix native's 0.51 aces per set average is fifth-highest, as well. Freshman libero
Morgan Williams' two digs today tied her with Stephanie Frost for 10
th-most in a season, also tying Frost with 3.41 digs per set for sixth-most in a single season.
