Bronx, N.Y. – The Fordham water polo team concluded its four-pack of home matches on Sunday, earning a split, by defeating Navy, 13-9, and falling to #17 George Washington, 15-5, at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
With the split, Fordham moves to 6-8 on the season, 3-4 in the Mid-Atlantic East Division.
The Rams opened the day with a tough loss to #17 George Washington, 15-5.
With the score tied at three after the first quarter, George Washington got three consecutive goals from Bogdan Petkovic to take a 6-3 lead. Fordham pulled back within two, 6-4, after a
Magnus Sims goal, but the Colonials poured on the offense for the remainder of the game, outscoring the Rams, 9-1, to finish off the win.
For Fordham, Sims had a goal, two assists, and two steals, while
Diego Delgado,
Jake Miller-Tolt,
R.J. Simmons, and
Ian Watson had the other Ram goals. In net,
Alex Jahns played two-plus quarters made three saves to go with two steals, while
Patrick Coffey finished the game with two saves and a steal.
In match two, the Rams defeated Navy for the second time in a week by a 13-9 score.

The score was 3-3 in the second quarter, when Fordham scored three of the next four goals to take a 6-4 lead. Delgado netted two of those three markers with Miller-Tolt having the third.
Fordham built up a four-goal lead in the third quarter and didn't look back, taking the match by a 13-9 count.
For Fordham, Simmons and Delgado each had three goals and an assist, while Miller-Tolt had two goals, two assists, and three steals. Watson also had a pair of tallies with
Cameron Shewchuck having a goal and four steals. Sims and
Grant Keesling rounded out the Fordham goal scorers. In net, Jahns had 10 saves, including a penalty block, to go with an assist and two steals.
The Fordham water polo team will now head to California for its annual west coast swing from October 6-8.
