Bronx, N.Y. – Despite a career-high six goals from sophomore Ian Watson, the Fordham water polo team fell to the Wagner Seahawks, 11-10, at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center on Thursday night.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 10-11 overall, 3-5 in the MAWPC, while Wagner improved to 6-12 on the year, 3-5 in the MAWPC.

Things started out well for the Rams, jumping out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Cole Donnelly and Ian Watson.  Wagner knotted the game at three, but Fordham's Jake Miller-Tolt scored with 53 seconds remaining in the first quarter to give the Rams a 4-3 lead after one period.

Wagner though outscored Fordham 3-1 in the second quarter to take a 6-5 lead at halftime.

Watson quickly tied the game at six in the third quarter, but the Seahawks answered with back-to-back goals to regain the two-goal lead at 8-6.  Watson was again there to respond for the Rams, netting an extra-man goal, while R.J. Simmons scored with 5:46 left in the third to tie the game at eight.

Wagner's Ciaran Wolohan put the Seahawks back on top, registering back-to-back extra-man goals, while Oscar Nomura also scored, giving Wagner its largest lead of the game at 11-8.

Watson continued to score for Fordham, netting one more goal on the third quarter and once in the fourth to pull Fordham within one, 11-10, with 1:39 to go in regulation.

Fordham would have an opportunity to tie the game in the waning seconds, as a common foul was called on Wagner.  Simmons picked up the ball and fired it into the back of the net, but the referee ruled that he was inside the five-meter line and disallowed the goal, leaving Fordham with the one-goal loss.

For Fordham, Watson netted a career-high six goals to go with four ejections drawn, while Simmons had two goals, an assist, and four steals.  Miller-Tolt added a goal, three assists, and a steal, with Donnelly having the final goal.  Tristen Knoflick added two assists with Diego Delgado having three steals and an assist.  In net, Alex Jahns had ten saves to go with a steal.

The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on Wednesday, October 26th, when the Rams host Iona College at 7:30 PM.
