Men’s Basketball Travels to VCU on Wednesday

Rams look to even conference record

Richmond, Va. - The Fordham University men's basketball squad continues its 2016 Atlantic 10 season on Wednesday, January 13, as the Rams travel to Richmond to face the VCU Rams in the Verizon Wireless Arena at 7:00 PM.
 
The game will be televised on the American Sports Network (ASN) with Ed Cohen (p-b-p) and Mark Adams (color) announcing and broadcast on WFUV and www.wfuvsports.org with Matt Moro (p-b-p) and James Decker (color) announcing. Follow the links above.
 
Fordham enters the game with a 10-4 overall record, 1-2 in the Atlantic 10, after a 93- 82 league loss to Richmond in the Rose Hill Gym on Sunday. VCU enters the game with an 11-5 overall record, 3-0 in the conference, after a 72-56 A-10 win at Saint Louis on Sunday.
 
Wednesday night's contest will be the sixth meeting between Fordham and VCU on the hardwood. VCU has won all five previous meetings, including taking both of last year's meetings, a 75-58 win in the Rose Hill Gym on January 4 where Briante Weber and Treveon Graham each netted 14 points for VCU, and 63-57, on March 12 in the second round of the Atlantic 10 Championships where Graham led all scorers with 22 points while Jon Severe paced four Fordham players in double figures.
 
Notes
• Fordham University senior forward Ryan Rhoomes was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week for games played from January 3-10. The award is the first weekly honor for Rhoomes and the first A-10 Player of the Year accolade for a Ram since Branden Frazier in December of 2013. In a pair of games on the week, Rhoomes averaged 21.5 ppg and 13.0 rpg, shooting .773 (17-22) from the field. He also added six blocks, three steals and three assists.
 
• After shooting .415 from the field last year (711-1713), the 2015-2016 Rams are off to a hot start, shooting .471 (385- 817) from the field, second best in the A-10. The Rams have also improved on their three-point shooting, hitting 38.3% of their long range shots (116-303), second in the conference, compared to 30.5% (187-613) last year.
 
• Senior forward Ryan Rhoomes is third in the NCAA in field goal shooting (.697).
 
• Senior guard Mandell Thomas enters the game with 1,281 career points, good for 15th on the Fordham all-time scoring list. He is 42 points behind Bob Melvin (1960-1963) and Bill Langheld (1965-1968) for 14th on the list.
 
• With his eight rebounds in the Richmond game, forward Ryan Rhoomes brought his career total to 753, good for tenth place on the Fordham career rebounding list. He is three behind Sanford Jenkins (1988-1992) for ninth on the all-time list.
