Lehigh's Mark Forrest netted the hat trick, while Joe Bogan made three saves as the Mountainhawks shut out the Fordham Rams, 3-0, at the Ulrich Sports Complex in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Tuesday.
The loss drops Fordham's record to 2-4-3, while Lehigh improved to 5-3-1.
Playing through a steady rain throughout the game, Lehigh netted the opening goal of the game in the 13
th minute. Matt Morana crossed a ball from the left side that Mark Forrest drove in the lower corner of the net for his second goal of the season.
The scored remained 1-0 until the 65
th minute when Forrest struck again. Forrest got loose on the left side after a Fordham defender slipped and fell. Fordham goalkeeper
Rashid Nuhu started to come out and challenge Forrest, but he ended up taking a soft chip shot from 35 yards out that bounced into the open net for a 2-0 lead.
Forrest then completed the hat trick in the 83
rd minute, as he scored into the lower right corner off a pass from Doyle Tuvesson.
Lehigh finished with a 12-11 shot edge with Joe Bogan making three saves to earn the shutout win. Nuhu made one save for the Rams.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, October 3
rd, as the Rams begin conference play against La Salle at Jack Coffey Field, beginning at 1:00 PM.
