Fordham trailed by four early on in the opening set, before back-to-back kills from Fronk and Martinez sliced the Rams' deficit to 8-7. Stony Brook then countered with eight of the next 12 points to increase its lead to 16-11.
The Rams were able to cut the Seawolves' lead to 22-19 when O'Neil delivered a kill, but the visitors tallied three of the final four points to take the first set, 25-20, for a 1-0 lead.
Fordham took a very early 3-1 lead to start the second set, but saw the advantage evaporate when Stony Brook used an 8-3 spurt to go in front by a score of 9-6. The Rams then went down by five points later
on, before they climbed back to within three at 16-13.
However, it was the closest Fordham would get, as the visitors tallied nine of the final 14 points to claim the set, 25-18, and a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, the Rams managed to take control at the onset and led by three during a majority of the early part, with sophomore
Molly Oshinski's kill producing a 10-7 advantage. But the Seawolves fought back and tied it at 11-11, before back-to-back kills from O'Neil moved Fordham back ahead, 13-11.
The difference in the set followed, as Stony Brook rattled off the next eight points to take the lead for good at 19-13. The Rams battled back and got to within two at both 23-21 and 24-22, but it was not enough, with the Seawolves clinching the third set, 25-22, and the match, 3-0.
Fordham returns to action this Friday, Sept. 25 when it welcomes Davidson inside the Rose Hill Gym for the start of Atlantic 10 play. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
