HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- The Fordham softball team dropped a weather-shortened five-inning 7-1 decision to Hofstra Wednesday at Bill Edwards Stadium. With the loss, the Rams fall to 25-18 on the season, while the Pride improves to 27-11-1 overall.
Fordham took an early 1-0 lead with two outs in the top of the first when redshirt junior
Rachel Gillen singled home freshman
Morgan Figueroa, who singled with one out.
The lead, however, was short-lived, as Hofstra scored an unearned run with two down in the bottom half to knot the game at 1-1.
After neither scored in the second, the Pride scored five times in the bottom of the third to take a 6-1 lead, before adding a single run in the bottom of the fourth for the final tally of 7-1.
The Rams finished with four hits, and the defense committed three errors. Senior
Michele Daubman (6-8) was charged with the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits over 2+ innings of work.
Hofstra's Morgan Lashley (16-1) went the distance, allowing the one earned run on four hits to go along with one walk and four strikeouts. The offense collected eight hits, with Caryn Bailey and Kim Smith each collecting two and scoring twice, while Michaela Transue added two RBI.
Fordham returns to action this weekend, April 25-26, when it welcomes George Washington to Bahoshy Field for a three-game series. Saturday will feature a doubleheader
Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. In between games, the 2015 Senior Day ceremony is slated to take place. The series finale will then take place Sunday at 1 p.m.
