Photo Gallery Brooklyn, N.Y. – Chaucer, the Father of English literature, is credited with the proverb "There is an end to everything, to good things as well." Such is the case for the Fordham men's basketball squad today who saw its nine-game winning streak snapped by a 64-55 loss to Boston College at the Barclays Center as part of the A-10/ACC Challenge.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 9-2 on the year while Boston College evens its record at 6-6.
According to head coach
Jeff Neubauer, the Rams played well enough defensively to win the game, limiting the Eagles to shooting 41.5% in the game, including 16.7% from behind the arc, but Fordham came up short on the offensive end, shooting a season-low 32.1% (18-56) from the field.
Antwoine AndersonThe Rams did have three players finish in double figures as
Antwoine Anderson led Fordham with 14 points while
Jon Severe added eleven and
Ryan Rhoomes ten along with nine rebounds.
Fordham took a 2-0 lead 17 seconds into the game as Rhoomes fed
Mandell Thomas for a layup and the Rams led 4-2 two minutes later following a pair of
Christian Sengfelder free throws but that was the last lead of the low-scoring first half for Fordham as the Rams trailed 27-22 at the break.
The Rams netted the first five points of the second half on a Sengfelder three-pointer and Rhoomes put back to knot the game at 27 2:30 into the period. But the Eagles responded with a 10-3 run to take a seven-point lead, 37-30, at the 12:09 mark.
A Thomas three then spurred an 8-0 Fordham run as the Rams took a 38-37 lead on a
Joseph Chartouny three-pointer with 10:53 remaining.
The Rams led by one again just under two minutes later when a Rhoomes layup gave Fordham a 40-39 advantage but the offense got cold as Boston College outscored the Rams 15-6 to take a 54-46 lead with 5:22 left.
Fordham wouldn't back down as another Chartouny trifecta started an 8-3 spurt for the Rams, who made it a three-point game, 57-54, on an Anderson three with 2:06 remaining. But the Rams could get no closer and the Eagles converted their free throws down the stretch for the 64-55 win.
After some time off for Christmas, the Rams return to action on Sunday, January 3, as they open Atlantic 10 play with a trip to Washington, D.C., to face the George Washington University Colonials in the Smith Center at 7:00 p.m. in a game that will be televised on the NBC Sports Network.
NotesSengfelder returned to action after missing the Maine game due to injury, his first game missed at Fordham. Sengfelder finished with seven points and three rebounds.
Thomas finished with five points to bring his career total to 1,242 points, moving him ahead of Tony McIntosh (1981-1985) and into 16th on the Fordham all-time scoring list.
Rhoomes' nine rebounds bring his career total to 718, good for eleventh place on the Fordham career rebounding list.
The Rams are now 3-4 all-time at the Barclays Center.
