The Fordham Water Polo team (18-14, 5-7 CWPA) is back again at the CWPA Championship this weekend after snaring one of four at-large bids and being named the highest seed among them. The Rams will be the eighth seed and will face MIT (12-13, 5-7 CWPA) on Friday morning, November 20, for the fourth time this season and third time in in the past month. The two schools will kick things off in Cambridge, Mass., the home of the Engineers, at 10 a.m. The match, and all others throughout the weekend, will be streamed live and can be accessed at the link above.
Â
The Rams fell to MIT in the first match of the CWPA Northeast Regionals, 10-7, before bouncing back with identical 13-6 scores against Connecticut College and Iona. The loss against the Engineers was Fordham's first in two years following five straight victories.
Â
R.J. Simmons led the way two weekends ago with nine goals to bring his season total to 55. The junior has also added 45 assists for 100 points on the year and is just three goals and two assists from his sophomore year marks.
Â
Sophomore keeper
Alex Jahns' 270 saves this season in net are the third-most in the last 15 years behind two outstanding seasons by former All-American Honorable Mention
Noah LeBeau.
Â
The Rams' balanced scoring attack is evident with six different players netting at least 25 times this season, plus six with at least 20 assists and six with at least 50 points. Fordham has attempted nearly 1,000 shots on goal (951) and are converting at a 34% clip.
Â
The Rams will face Northern Division Champions Brown at 3:20 p.m. later in the day if they defeat MIT and a win against the Bears would propel the team into the semi-finals. A loss against MIT would see Fordham face off with the loser of the Navy-Washington & Jefferson College contest with the result landing the Rams in either the ninth-place or eleventh-place matches.
