Men’s Soccer Back in Action Wednesday at Davidson

Rams Look for First 2-0 Start in League Play Since 2011

Following an excellent start to conference play at home, the Fordham men's soccer team hits the road this week for a pair of Atlantic 10 contests, the first of which will be at Davidson on Wednesday, October 7th at 7:00 PM.

Fordham will be looking for its first 2-0 start in conference play since 2011, while also trying to reach the .500 mark overall for the first time this year.

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the first-ever meeting between Fordham and Davidson.

LAST TIME OUT: With their family in the stands, Fordham's Jannik and Janos Loebe put on a display, accounting for all three goals in the Rams' 3-0 win over the La Salle Explorers at Jack Coffey Field on Saturday.

With the win, Fordham improved to 3-4-3 on the year, 1-0 in the Atlantic 10, while La Salle fell to 4-6-1 overall, 0-1 in the league.  The win also marked the first time since 2011 that Fordham has won its conference opening game.

The Rams got on the board early in the 11th minute, as Andres Penfold started the action on the far sideline, crossing the ball into the center of the box.  Ryan Walsh back heeled the ball into the air, where Jannik Loebe chested the ball for control and one-timed it inside the right post from 12 yards out for his first goal of the season.

Fordham made it 2-0 late in the first half, scoring in the 44th minute. Walsh started the attack, getting the ball 30 yards from goal.  He charged ahead and quickly passed the ball to the left side of the box to an oncoming Janos Loebe.  Loebe then snuck the ball by La Salle goalkeeper Mike Kirk on the right side from ten yards for his third goal of the year.

The score remained that way until the 69th minute, when the Rams sealed the game with their third goal on a beautiful passing combination between Walsh and the Loebe brothers.  On a breakout run, Jannik Loebe got the ball 30 yards out and passed wide to Walsh on the left side.  Walsh took a touch and crossed the ball back in to Janos Loebe at the penalty spot for the one-timer off the right post and into the goal.

The three goals were more than enough for the Rams, as defensively, the team allowed only two shots and one corner kick opportunity to the Explorers.  Rashid Nuhu did not record a save in the shutout, while Kirk had two saves for La Salle.

WHO'S NEXT: The Rams stay on the road for their next A-10 tilt, as they travel to Pittsburgh to meet the Duquesne Dukes at 7:00 PM on Saturday, October 10th.
