George Mason's Henning Dirks and Conlan Kemmerer each scored twice, while Ahmed Ismail also scored, as the Patriots defeated the Fordham Rams, 5-1, in men's soccer action at Jack Coffey Field on Sunday.
The loss drops Fordham to 6-6-3 on the year, 4-2 in the Atlantic 10, while George Mason improved to 5-7-3 on the year, 1-2-3 in the league.
The Patriots got on the scoreboard in the 19
th minute after a flurry of shots in front of the Fordham goal. Henning Dirks started with an initial shot from the right side, which was stopped by Fordham goalkeeper
Rashid Nuhu. The rebound went to Brice Colcombe, who headed the ball toward goal, but was headed away by Fordham defender
Ryan Cupolo. The ball still wasn't cleared with Dirks taking another shot, which was blocked, before eventually putting in the rebound for his third goal of the year.
Dirks struck again in the 25
th minute, as he received a cross from Matt Tucker near the six-yard box. Dirks then chipped a shot over Nuhu for his second goal of the game.
In the 29
th minute, George Mason made it a 3-0 game, as Ahmed Ismail blasted a shot from 30 yards out that glanced off a Fordham player and into the bottom left corner of the net for his first of the season.
In the second half, Fordham pulled to within 3-1 on a set piece.
Janos Loebe took a corner kick in the 56
th minute that glance off a Patriots defender into the air and was headed into the goal by Fordham's
Eric Ohlendorf for his first career goal.
The Patriots though quickly regained a three-goal lead just a minute later. Off a throw-in, Nuhu went to catch the ball, but the ball was fumbled and kicked into the goal by Conlan Kemmerer for his first of the season.
George Mason then closed out the scoring in the 76
th minute, as Kemmerer put in his second goal of the game from six yards out off a touch pass from Dirks.
In goal, Steffen Kraus made five saves for the Patriots in the win, while Nuhu made two saves over 75 minutes of action with
Dan Miklos adding one in the final 15 minutes.
The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, October 31
st, when they host the Dayton Flyers for Senior Night, beginning at 7:00 PM.
