Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Fordham women's volleyball team dropped an Atlantic 10 match Friday night to George Mason in three sets inside the Recreation Athletic Complex, as the home team won by scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-12. With the loss, the Rams fall to 8-17 (2-6 A-10) on the season, while the Patriots improve to 8-14 (3-5 A-10) overall.
Junior
Kristen Ostach and senior
Abigail Konovodoff led the offense with six kills and 13 assists, respectively, while senior
Brennan Delsing and freshman
Olivia LaPorta paced the defense with 11 digs and two total blocks.
The score was tied five times over the first 10 points of the opening set until George Mason tallied three straight to take an 8-5 lead. But a kill from sophomore
Molly Oshinski started a 4-1 spurt that once again deadlocked the set at 9-9.
The Patriots once again responded with three straight, before Fordham fought back to within one at 14-13 on a block-assist from senior
Brianna O'Neil and Ostach.
It would, however, be the closest Fordham would come, as Mason broke away from a 16-14 lead with a 7-2 run to move in front by a score of 23-16 to eventually take the set, 25-19, and a 1-0 lead.
The second set started with four ties over the first eight points. Trailing 10-8, back-to-back kills from freshman
Natalie Martinez and O'Neil tied the set at 10-10, as the Rams tallied four of the next five points to take their first and only lead of the set, 12-11.
But it was all George Mason after that. The Patriots rolled off five straight en route to ending the set on a 14-3 run to win the second set, 25-15, for a 2-0 lead.
George Mason scored six of the first seven points of the third set and never looked back. A kill from Ostach sliced the deficit to 8-4 early on, but it was not nearly enough, as the Patriots cruised to the 25-12 victory and a 3-0 triumph.
Fordham looks to bounce back Saturday night when it travels to Washington, D.C. to take on George Washington in conference play at 7 p.m.
