Andres Penfold made sure it didn't happen for a third time tonight, scoring both of the Rams' goals as Fordham upended Lafayette, 2-1, on Jack Coffey Field.
Fordham improves to 1-2 on the season with the win while Lafayette falls to 1-2.
Penfold got the Rams on the board first, blasting a shot from 20 yards out that beat Lafayette keeper Sandy Leavy to the far top corner for his first goal of the year.
The Leopards almost found the equalizer with 14 minutes left in the half when Julian Plummer jumped on a loose ball but his shot from 20 yards was knocked away by Fordham keeper
Sean Brailey. The ball rebounded to Lafayette's Ryan Egan who got off another shot which was blocked by a Fordham defender.
Penfold gave the Rams a 2-0 lead early in the second half, heading a cross from
Kyle Bitterman inside the box past a diving Leavy.
Lafayette got one back in the 53
rd minute when Egan found a loose ball just outside the box and got off a laser that beat Brailey to the far side for his first tally of the year.
The Leopards pressed the rest of the way, allowing the Rams a pair of opportunities in the final three minutes but Fordham couldn't find the back of the net with an insurance goal.
Eric Ohlendorf had the first chance but his shot went wide while seconds later
Eric Walano saw his shot blocked by a defender.
Brailey made three saves in net for the Rams to earn his first win while Leavy also finished with three saves.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday night, September 9, as they host the Manhattan College Jaspers in the annual Battle of the Bronx on Jack Coffey Field at 7:00 PM.
