For the second straight game, the Fordham men's soccer team was able to get to halftime without allowing a goal against an Ivy League opponent. The loss puts Fordham's record at 3-4-1 on the year, while Dartmouth improved to 3-2-1.
Fordham had the first scoring chance of the match in the 13
th minute, as
Tomas Penfold blasted a shot from 20 yards out right at Dartmouth goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland for the save.
The next chance came off a Penfold corner kick that
Ole Sandnes had a chance at, but his shot in the 29
th minute sailed wide.
The Rams continued the attack with another scoring chance in the 38
th minute. This time,
Jon Agostino took a shot from the left side that was knocked away by the goalkeeper.
Dartmouth's lone chance of the first half came in the 39
th minute, as Alberto Gorini connected from 25 yards out with Fordham goalkeeper
Sean Brailey picking up the rolling shot.
In the second half, the Big Green scored early in the 53
rd minute off a long throw-in by Tommy Johnson, which was headed in by Nick Rooney for his first goal of the season.
Dartmouth almost made it 2-0 in the 56
th minute on a shot toward an empty net by Alex Adelabu, but
Ryan Cupolo came across to make a defender save to keep it a 1-0 game.
The Big Green were then able to get that insurance marker in the 70
th minute, when Eric Jayne and Robin Alnas connected on a give-and-go with Alnas scoring from 11 yards out for his third tally of the year.
In goal, Cleveland finished with two saves to record the clean sheet, while Brailey had two stops for the Rams.
