Photo GalleryBehind a game-high five goals from Jake Lloyd, the Iona Gaels handed the Fordham Rams a 16-10 loss at the Hynes Athletic Center on Thursday night.
The loss puts Fordham's record at 7-4 overall, 1-2 in the CWPA Northern Division.
Fordham opened the scoring 1:12 into the contest, when
Patrick Reyes scored from inside the two-meter area, turning away from two Iona defenders. From there, Iona took over the game with six straight goals to end the first quarter ahead by a 6-1 count.
After the Gaels started the scoring in the second quarter to go up 7-1, the Rams looked to rally back with three straight markers from
Ethan Vandeventer,
Peter Bergum, and
R.J. Simmons to mae it a 7-4 game. However, the Gaels continued to press finish with a 10-5 lead at halftime.
Iona then sealed up the game in the third quarter, outscoring Fordham, 5-1, in the period to take a commanding 15-6 lead, and eventually winning by six goals.
For Fordham, Simmons led teh way with three goals and two assists, while
Ori Raz had a pair of goals. Reyes, Vandeventer, Bergum,
Davis DeFontes, and
Patrick Lenihan would finish out the Rams' scoring with one goal each. In net,
Noah LeBeau played the first and third quarters, making three saves with two steals, while
Alex Jahns made 10 saves over the other two quarters for his fist extended work for the Rams.
The Fordham water polo team will be back in action on Saturday, September 27th, as the Rams play at MIT.
