The Fordham water polo team made their way to Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, on Saturday to begin play at the two-day Bucknell Invitational. On day one, the Rams were edged out by George Washington, 8-7, while coming back to defeat the University of Toronto, 10-3.
In the opener, the Colonials posted two goals in the fourth quarter to record the 8-7 win.
After each team scored twice in the opening stanza, Fordham took a 5-3 lead at halftime. The Colonials cut the lead to 7-6 after three quarters, and then outscored Fordham 2-0 in the final period to earn the win.
For Fordham,
Davis DeFontes and
Patrick Lenihan each had two goals, while
Andrew Gonzalez,
Patrick Reyes, and
R.J. Simmons each had one. In net,
Noah LeBeau had 10 saves and a steal.
In game two, the Rams cruised to a 10-3 win over the University of Toronto.
With the score tied at one after the first quarter, Fordham scored the next six goals and never looked back.
For Fordham, Simmons led the way with three goals, while
Eric Minowitz and
Mike Hay each had two. DeFontes,
Landon Kern, and
Peter Bergum rounded out the scoring for Fordham. In goal, LeBeau played the first 3 ½ quarters making four saves, while
Patrick Harrigan had one stop in the final half of the fourth quarter.
The Fordham water polo team wraps up play at the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday with matches against Washington & Jefferson at 10:40 AM and host Bucknell at 2:40 PM. The Bucknell match can be seen on the
