Men’s Soccer Earns Draw at NJIT

Jannik Loebe Scores First Collegiate Goal for Fordham

The Fordham men's soccer team made it three straight games without a loss on Saturday afternoon, as the Rams earned a 1-1 draw at NJIT in Newark, New Jersey.

With the tie, both Fordham and NJIT are 2-2-1 on the year.

After an early save by Fordham goalkeeper Sean Brailey, Fordham got their first chance of the game in the 14th minute, when Andres Penfold looked to continue his scoring streak.  His first shot was blocked but got a second opportunity at goal, which was knocked away on a defender save to keep the game scoreless.

Though Penfold didn't score on those chances, he did start the play that would give Fordham a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.  Penfold slid a pass from the middle of the field to Jannik Loebe inside the left part of the box.  Loebe wouldn't miss his chance, netting his first collegiate goal to give the Rams the lead.

The score remained at 1-0 until the 80th minute, where the Highlanders found the equalizer.  Marko Drljic headed in a cross from Phillip Costa for his first tally of the season.

Fordham tried to get the lead back over the final minutes of regulation and overtime, but NJIT goalkeeper Christian Foust made three saves over that time to keep the score at one all.

In net, Foust finished with four saves, while Brailey had four for Fordham.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Wednesday, September 17th, when the Rams host Temple at 4:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
