Brooklyn, N.Y. (March 13, 2014) - The Fordham University men's basketball squad, coming off its first Atlantic 10 Championship win last night, continues play at the 2014 Atlantic 10 Championship as they face the University of Dayton Flyers in the first round in the Barclays Center on Thursday afternoon , March 13, at 2:30 p.m.
The game will be televised live on the NBC Sports Network with Mike Corey (p-b-p) and David Kaplan (color) announcing and will be broadcast on WFUV (90.7 FM) and www.wfuv.org and can be followed live via livestats. Follow the links above.
Fordham, the 13 seed, enters the game with a 10-20 overall record after a 70-67 win over George Mason University in the opening round of the championship last night at the Barclays Center. Dayton, the fifth seed, enters the game with a 22-9 overall record after a 60-48 conference home win over Richmond on Saturday.
The Rams will be led into the game by the top scoring backcourt in the Atlantic 10, senior guard
Branden Frazier, a preseason Third Team All-Atlantic 10 pick, and freshman guard
Jon Severe, a product of Christ the King High School. Frazier, who is averaging 21.0 ppg over the past four games, is averaging 17.0 ppg, second in the Atlantic 10, while Severe, a four-time Atlantic 10 rookie of the week, is averaging 17.4 ppg, third best in the conference.
Frazier has 1,612 career points, ninth on the Fordham all-time, and he has 492 career assists, second all-time at Fordham, while Severe has accumulated 521 points so far in his rookie campaign, setting a new school freshman scoring mark.
Thursday afternoon's game will be the 30th meeting between Fordham and Dayton with the Flyers leading the all-time series, which started in 1952-53, 24-5. Dayton has won the past eight meetings, including an 80-68 win on the Rose Hill gym on January 15 as Devin Oliver and Vee Sanford each netted 16 points for the Flyers and
Branden Frazier led all scorers with 20 points for the Rams.
