Notes* Fordham freshmen
Eric Paschall and
Chris Sengfelder are just one of two sets of freshman teammates to be averaging more than 10.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg. Paschall is fifth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring with a 16.6 ppg average while also pulling down 5.6 rpg, while Sengfelder is averaging 11.3 ppg and 6.6 rpg. The only other freshman combo to be averaging 10.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg are Purdue's Isaac Hass (11.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg) and Vince Edwards (10.4 ppg, 6.1 rpg).
* While "Can you tell me how to get to Fordham Road" doesn't have the same ring as "Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street", members of the Fordham men's basketball team contributed t of the Japanese version of Sesame Street on December 27 following practice. NHK Educational's English language learning TV program for children, "
Pre-Kiso Eigo" (or "pre-basic English" in direct translation), aims at teaching early English literacy to Japanese children (mainly 5th and 6th graders) who are learning English for the first time. They asked
Matt Massimino,
Nemanja Zarkovic and
Manny Suarez to appear in a segment for tall, taller and tallest and had
Bryan Smith and
Mandell Thomas appear in a segment on high and higher (with each player jumping as high as they could). The day ended with Chris Sengfelder and
Dekeba Battee-Aston arm wrestling to show the children strong and stronger. Click here to see the photos.
* Through games of December 29, the Fordham Rams have the Atlantic 10's fifth leading scorer, and top freshman scorer, in freshman guard
Eric Paschall (16.6 ppg) and the third leading rebounder in junior forward
Ryan Rhoomes (10.2 rpg). Rhoomes is also third in the conference in blocked shots, averaging 1.8/game.
