Richmond, Va. (January 29, 2014) – The Fordham University men's basketball squad had their shot at upsetting VCU tonight. Or more accurately the Rams had their shots to upset VCU but Fordham couldn't convert as cold shooting doomed the Rams who fell to one of the other Atlantic 10 Rams, 76-60 in a conference game in the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 8-12 on the season, 1-6 in the Atlantic 10, while VCU improves to 17-4 overall, 5-1 in the conference.
Fordham actually outshot VCU in the game, shooting at a 37.3% (22-59) clip compared to 33.8% (22-65) for the home squad but VCU outscored Fordham 23-9 from the charity stripe and seemed to come up with big baskets off Fordham misses that prevented Fordham from closing the deficit throughout the contest. Fordham also had problems handling the VCU Havoc defense, committing 18 turnovers, one shy of the team's season-high.
Sophomore guard
Mandell Thomas led Fordham, netting a career-high 25 points, shooting 9-16 from the field and 5-10 from behind the arc, and he also added five rebounds and he tied his career-high with four blocks.

Fordham will return to action on Saturday, February 1, as they host another Atlantic 10 Rams, the University of Rhode Island, in the Rose Hill Gym at 7:00 PM in a game that will be televised live on SportsNet NY (SNY).
