Fordham Soccer Hosts Final Doubleheader of the Season

Fordham Women Open A-10 Play Against URI, While Men Face Columbia

The final soccer doubleheader of the season takes place on Sunday, as the Fordham women open conference play against Rhode Island at 1:00 PM, followed by the men's team taking on Columbia at 4:30 PM.

In the women's game, Fordham looks to shake off a rough non-conference schedule that had the Rams finish at 2-5-2.  Rhode Island wrapped up non-conference play at 5-5-0.  Among common non-league opponents (Providence, Manhattan and Army), Fordham was 0-2-1, while Rhode Island was 1-2-0.

In the men's contest, the Rams (2-5-0) are looking to snap out of a current four-game slide.  The Lions, who began the year at 0-2, have rebounded to win four straight matches, three of which were at home.

WOMEN'S SOCCER SERIES HISTORY AGAINST RHODE ISLAND: This is the 17th all-time meeting between Fordham and Rhode Island.  URI has gotten the better of Fordham in the "Battle of the Rams" series, posting a 9-6-1 record against the Rose Hill Rams.

However, Fordham has won four of the last five meetings with the last one coming in 2011, a 2-0 win at Rhode Island.  In that game, Fordham received goals from Kelsey Dougherty Howard and Annie Worden.

MEN'S SOCCER SERIES HISTORY AGAINST COLUMBIA: One of the oldest series that Fordham has, the Rams will meet Columbia for the 41st time today in a series that dates back to 1958.

The Lions lead the all-time series at 24-10-6, but Fordham has gotten the better Columbia lately.  The Rams are 3-0-1 in the last four showdowns, posting wins in 2006, 2010 and 2011.  The most bizarre finish was the 2011 game that ended in a 1-0 overtime win for the Rams.  John McHugh scored on his own corner kick, as the Columbia goalkeeper pulled the ball in and over the goal line.

WHO'S NEXT: The Fordham women's soccer team will next be in action on Friday, October 4th, when the Rams travel to Philadelphia to take on La Salle at 7:00 PM.  The Fordham men's team will next be in action on Wednesday, October 2nd, as the Rams take on Manhattan at 7:00 PM in the final non-conference game at Gaelic Park.
