BRONX, N.Y.- Looking to open up their 2013 conference season on a high note, the Fordham Rams ran into a tough Rhode Island team on Friday night, falling in straight sets.

Lisa Hipp led the Rams with seven kills, while Carina Thompson added six and hit .375.

Maria Rodenberg recorded ten digs on the night.

Fordham looked strong to start the opening set, taking the first two points and pulling ahead 5-4 on a kill from Hipp.  With the score 10-8 in favor of Rhode Island, Rhody uncorked 11-3 run midway through the set, taking a commanding advantage at 21-11.  The Rams rallied to pull within eight at 23-15, but Rhode Island went on to take the set 25-15.

Fordham led 9-5 early in the second set with the help of a pair of kills from Brennan Delsing and consecutive aces from Rodenberg.  Rhode Island, however, went off on another run, this time a 20-7 streak to win the stanza 25-16.

Like the first two sets, set number three saw the Rams hang in early, but a 11-3 run from Rhody opened up an 19-9 lead that Fordham had trouble overcoming.  Rhode Island went on to win the set 25-14.

The Rams will be back in action tomorrow night, welcoming A-10 newcomer George Mason to the Rose Hill Gym.  The match will tip off at 7 PM.
