The last time the Fordham men's soccer team traveled to the Ambler Sports Complex, the Rams celebrated their first Atlantic 10 regular season title with a 1-0 win over Temple in 2011.  On Wednesday, the Rams traveled once again to Ambler to face their now former league opponent in non-conference action, but the Owls came away victorious, scoring late in the second half for a 1-0 victory.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 2-5-0 on the year, while Temple improved to 6-2-0.

The Rams and Owls played scoreless soccer in the first half, with each side recording five shots.  Fordham had three on net, with two coming from Jon Agostino. Temple goalkeeper Dan Scheck was up to the task, making the save on both occasions.

Fordham continued to press the attack in the second half, as Ollie Kelly hit the cross bar in the 60th minute, but Temple would get the first and only goal of the game in the 76th minute.  Off a corner feed, Temple's Willie Chalfant came up with possession and slipped it to Matt Mahoney. Mahoney's shot   went high right corner, beating Fordham goalkeeper Alex Naples for his first goal of the season.

The Rams tried to get the equalizer over the final 14 minutes, but Fordham's Mike McNamara was thwarted on two occasions.  First in the 87th minute, McNamara tried to head home a corner kick, but it went off the crossbar, while his second chance in the 89th minute was blocked by a Temple defender.

Scheck made three saves for Temple, earning his sixth shutout of the season, while Naples made five saves for Fordham.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, September 29th, when the Rams host Columbia in the second half of a soccer doubleheader at Jack Coffey Field.  Approximate game time is 4:30 PM.
