Bronx, N.Y. (September 21, 2013) - The Fordham water polo team dropped both of its CWPA Northern Division matches at the Messmore Aquatic Center
on Saturday. The Rams fell to Harvard in the afternoon, 15-5, while dropping the evening contest to #17 Brown, 17-5.
With the two losses, Fordham moves to 5-5 on the year, 0-2 in the Northern Division.
In the opening match, Harvard's Ben Zepfel and Dan Stevens each netted three goals to lead the Crimson to a 15-5 win.
The Crimson took control of the match early, going ahead 5-0 after the first quarter and never looking back.
For Fordham,
Bobby Wurtz led the way with two goals and one assist, while
Peter Bergum had a goal and an assist.
Dan Kearney added a goal and two steals with
Mike Hay rounding out the Fordham scorers.
In the Fordham net,
Noah LeBeau and
Eric Mullery each played a half with LeBeau making four saves and Mullery adding five.
In game two, the Rams fell to #17 Brown, 17-5.
Fordham trailed 3-1 after the first quarter, as the Rams got an extra-man goal from
Andrew Gonzalez.
But the Bears would score five times in the second and six in the third to put the game out of reach.
For Fordham, Gonzalez had two goals, two steals, and an assist, while Hay, Bergum and Kearney each had one marker. In net, LeBeau played the first three quarters, posting three saves and three steals, while Mullery had one save in the final quarter.
The Rams will conclude a busy conference weekend on Sunday, September 22
nd, with matches against MIT (
10:00 AM) and Connecticut College (
2:00 PM).
