Rams Down Bonnies, 6-5, in Historic Fashion

Box Score

April 27, 2013

Final Stats

In a season that has already seen a few school records fall, Elise Fortier shattered another Fordham mark on Saturday afternoon in stunning fashion. The junior shortstop blasted three home runs on the day in Fordham's 6-5 win over St. Bonaventure, including the game winner, giving her 18 on the year and passing the single-season mark of 16 set by Erin Fisher in 2010 and Jocelyn Dearborn in 2011.

Fortier joined Beckah Wiggins ('11) as the only Rams to ever hit three goners in one game.

On the day, Fortier went 4-4 with three round-trippers, a double and five runs batted in. She also drew a walk in the first inning.

With the win, Fordham improved to 30-17 on the year, while St. Bonaventure fell to 6-38 (2-16, A-10). The Rams now possess a 13-5 record in conference.

The Rams threatened in the top of the first, leaving two runners on as the Bonnies managed to work their way out of the inning unscathed.

Fordham went scoreless again in the top of the second, but broke through in the third.

Jamie LaBovick started off the inning with a double to left centerfield, marking the 41st time in 46 games played this season that the senior from Peoria, Ariz., has registered at least one hit.

Fortier stepped to the plate next, sending one over the centerfield fence and tying the school mark of 16.

St. Bonaventure responded in the bottom of the fourth, stringing together a few extra base hits to push across a couple runs and knot the score at two.

The Rams answered right back in the top of the fifth, as Fortier hit another bomb, this one a solo shot over the centerfield wall.

Fordham carried its one-run lead into the top of the seventh, a frame in which LaBovick and Fortier hit back-to-back doubles and Jessica Crowley scored on a error, padding the Rams' lead to three, 5-2, heading into the bottom of the seventh.

The Bonnies, however, would not go down lightly. Ashley Snider smacked a three-run homer to right-center, forcing the contest into extra innings.

Both squads went scoreless in the eighth before Fortier came up huge yet again. The Coventry, R.I., native stepped up to the plate to start the ninth and gave it a ride, sending one into the stands for the third time on the afternoon and giving the Rams a 6-5 advantage.

The Bonnies threatened in the bottom of the ninth, but Taylor Pirone worked her way out of a jam, earning a strikeout and forcing a pop up to third to end the game.

With just one weekend remaining in A-10 play, the Rams have a Tuesday matinee on the road, taking on St. John's in Queens. First pitch is set for 3 PM.
