Final Stats
Sometimes a team goes down early and struggles to get out of the hole. Today was not one of those days for the Fordham Rams. After giving up a run to St. Bonaventure in the bottom of the first, Fordham exploded for 11 in the top of the second, helping the Rams down the Bonnies by a score of 15-1 in five innings.
Fordham moves to 29-17 overall, 12-5 in the A-10, with the win. Following the loss, St. Bonaventure drops to 6-37 on the year with a 2-15 mark in conference play.
All nine batters in the starting lineup for Fordham registered at least one hit and four Rams recorded multi-hit games. Michele Daubman went 3-3 on the day with a home run. Gabby Luety, Brianna Turgeon and Paige Ortiz also went deep.
After the Rams went down 1-2-3 in the top of the first, Grac Rooney singled home a run in the bottom of the frame to push the Bonnies to an early 1-0 lead.
Then, the Rams came to bat. Turgeon led off the inning with a solo shot to tie the score at one. Kayla Lombardo took first after getting hit by a pitch and scored on the next at bat when Daubman blasted one over the left field wall. Next, Chelsea Palumbo drew a walk and stole second before Ortiz jacked a goner to left.
Before the inning was over, the Rams sent 16 batters to the plate, recorded eight hits and scored 11 runs. Not only did the Rams continue to pour it on, but when the inning finally ended, they still had two runners on base.
From there, it was smooth sailing for Coach Orchard's squad. Elise Fortier led off the top of the third with a triple and promptly scored when Luety smacked a home run to left center in the next at bat.
The Rams added another pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth when Smith scored from third on a wild pitch and Luety scored LaBovick two batters later.
The Rams and Bonnies have one more game remaining in Olean, as they face off tomorrow at noon.
