Indianapolis, Ind. - Already behind the eight-ball following a cancelled flight, the Fordham baseball team finally made it to Indianapolis for the start of a three-game series at Butler on Friday. The Rams fought through the rough morning travel, but one bad inning gave the Bulldogs a 7-2 win at Bulldog Park.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, where Butler capitalized on Fordham's one bad inning for seven runs on five hits and two Fordham errors. The big hits in the inning were a two-run single by Austin Miller and a two-run home run by Michael Fries.

Fordham got a run back in the fifth, when Joseph DeVito doubled home Brendan Maghini, who reached base on a single and moved to second on a groundout.

The Rams did score in the eighth for the final score of 7-2. DeVito reached on an infield single and moved to second on a bunt single by Joseph Runco. After a flyout, Mike Mauri singled through the left side to score DeVito.

Butler's Eric Stout (7-4) earned the win, allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts over seven innings. Fordham starter Joseph Charest took the loss, giving up seven runs (two earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts. The Rams got three scoreless innings of relief from the trio of Jonathan Reich, Jeremy Adel and Dan Sorine.

At the plate, DeVito was 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Mauri and Runco each had two hits.

The same two teams will face off at noon on Saturday.
