BRONX, N.Y. - Despite jumping out to an early lead on Paige Ortiz's two-run homer in the second inning, the Rams ultimately fell to local powerhouse Hofstra by a score of 10-2 in five innings on Wednesday evening.

With the loss, the Rams fall to 28-17 overall, while the Pride improves to 32-11 on the year.

The Rams did a commendable job getting to Hofstra's starting pitcher, Olivia Galati. Heading into the contest, Galati's ERA was just 1.57 and she struck out more than 1.2 batters per inning. On Wednesday, the Rams managed to score two runs on nine hits in only five innings against Galati while registering only one strikeout.

Michele Daubman started in the circle for the Rams and did a stellar job keeping Hofstra off the board early. The North Massapequa, N.Y., native allowed no runs on just three hits through the first three frames.

The Rams, meanwhile, had a bit of an offensive outburst during that stretch. Fordham racked up seven hits through the first three innings, including the two-run bomb by Ortiz that gave the Rams the early lead.

Hofstra narrowed the deficit to one in the top of the fourth before exploding in the top of the fifth. The Pride pushed across nine runs on nine hits while sending 15 batters to the plate in the inning, taking a 10-2 lead after four and a half.

The Rams threatened in the bottom of the inning, but failed to score, thus invoking the run rule.

Fordham will be back in action on Friday, traveling to St. Bonaventure for a showdown against the Bonnies in Western New York. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 PM and the two teams will meet again on Saturday at noon.
