Bronx, N.Y. - George Washington starting pitcher Kenny O'Brien tossed a complete game, six-hitter, while Matthew Murakami was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, as the Colonials defeated the Fordham Rams, 5-2, at Houlihan Park on Sunday.

The Colonials (14-25, 7-8) started the scoring with three runs in the second inning, capitalizing on a pair of Fordham miscues.

Fordham (13-27, 2-10) got a run back in the bottom of the third on an RBI-single by Mike Mauri, which scored Ryan McNally from third. McNally reached on a single to left, moved to second on a wild pitch, and was sacrificed to third.

The Colonials responded right away with two more runs in the fourth, as George Washington loaded the bases and got a bases loaded walk and a single to score the runs.

The Rams tried to climb back into the game, as they took advantage of an error in the fourth. With one on and two out, the Colonials' centerfielder dropped a pop up allowing McNally to reach base with Ian Edmiston moving to second. Ryan Phelan then delivered a single to center to score Edmiston.

Fordham however could not get any closer as Colonials' starter Kenny O'Brien (2-0) allowed just three batters to reach base over the final five innings. O'Brien, who was making an emergency start as Max Kaplow was unable to go, went the distance, allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

Fordham starter Jimmy Murphy (0-2) took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits over four innings. Reliever Brett Kennedy made his first appearance in two weeks, giving up only one hit over four innings of work, while Rich Anastasi pitched a scoreless ninth.

At the plate, Mauri was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Edmiston and McNally were both 1-for-4 with a run scored.

The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Wednesday, April 24th, when the Rams host Columbia for a doubleheader, beginning at 4:00 PM. Both teams will take part in "St. Baldrick's Day", as the two teams will shave their heads in support of the St. Baldrick's Foundation for childhood cancer research.
