Bronx, N.Y. - George Washington starting pitcher Aaron Weisberg tossed a complete game, five-hit shutout, while Owen Beightol drove in three runs, as the Colonials defeated the Fordham Rams, 9-0, at Houlihan Park on Friday.

After George Washington took the lead in the top of the first by a 1-0 score, Fordham (12-26, 1-9 A10) looked to answer immediately, as Joseph Runco and Mike Mauri connected on back-to-back singles with one out. Charles Galiano was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. The Rams though hit some bad luck as Ian Edmiston hit a ground ball that hit Mauri as he was running for third, causing a dead ball out and no run scoring. Sam Careccia then struck out to end the potential rally.

The Colonials (13-24, 6-7) added to the lead in the third on a solo home run by Xavier Parkmond, and then added two in the sixth for a 4-0 lead.

George Washington picked up another run in the seventh and sealed the game with a four-run ninth inning to finish off a 9-0 decision.

George Washington starting pitcher Aaron Weisberg (4-4) held the Rams in check, limiting Fordham to just five hits, while tying a season-high with seven strikeouts. Of the five Ram hits, Runco had three of them, recording his third multi-hit game in a row, while Mauri and Edmiston had the other two.

Fordham starter Joseph Charest fell to 1-7 on the year, allowing five runs on nine hits with six strikeouts, while Ryan Fedak pitched the final two innings, giving up four runs on five hits.

The same two teams will meet for game two of the series at 4:00 PM on Saturday.
