Final Stats
Elise Fortier knocked in a pair of runs, while Gabby Luety and Sammi Smith registered multi-hit games to lead the Rams to a 4-3 victory over Saint Louis on the road.
The Rams threatened to start the game, as Fortier walked and Luety singled to left field to put two runners on for Fordham with only one out. But a hard hit ball from Brianna Turgeon on the next play did the Rams in, as the Saint Louis shortstop snagged the liner up the middle and stepped on the bag at second for an unassisted double play.
Michele Daubman kept the Billikens off the board for the first two innings, surrendering three hits, but exiting unscathed.
The Billikens finally got on the board in the third, as Lindsay Friedman doubled with one out and Kelsey Biggs singled her home two batters later.
Saint Louis put up another run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Erin Harcar, but the Rams got the bats going in the top of the fifth.
Chelsea Palumbo and Smith started off the inning with a pair of singles before Jamie LaBovick extended her school-record hitting streak to 25 games with an RBI double to center.
Next up, Fortier smacked another two-bagger to right center, driving in Smith and LaBovick to give the Rams a 3-2 lead.
A fielding error by Saint Louis allowed one more Fordham run to come across in the frame, giving the Rams' a 4-2 advantage after four and a half innings.
Daubman blanked the Billikens in the bottom of the fifth.
Fordham went scoreless in the top of the sixth and the Billikens closed the gap in the home half of the frame on a solo home run from Olivia Roback, cutting the Rams' lead to one, 4-3. Patti Maloney got the call in relief after the dinger, and got the Rams out of the inning.
The Rams went down in order in the top of the seventh, but Maloney held strong in the bottom of the frame to maintain the Rams' lead. Saint Louis' leadoff hitter reached on a single and eventually reached third after a sac bunt and deep fly out to center. With the game-tying run just 60 feet away, Maloney got Harcar to fly out to left field, sealing the victory for the Rams.
The Rams and Billikens will be back in action tomorrow in Saint Louis, with first pitch set for 1 PM.
