BRONX, N.Y. -
Coming into Wednesday's non-conference doubleheader on a tear as of late, the Fordham softball team dropped a pair of games to Lehigh at Bahoshy Field this afternoon. The Rams fell to the Mountain Hawks in game one by a score of 6-1, before dropping the second decision, 7-1.
Jamie LaBovick provided a bright spot for the Rams this afternoon. By smacking a single in game one and ripping a double to left-center in game two, the senior from Peoria, Ariz., extended her school-record hitting streak to 24 games. Before the game, Coach Orchard honored LaBovick's achievement by presenting her with a commemorative plaque and the game ball from her record-shattering 22nd straight game with a hit.
In game one, Fordham jumped out to an early lead, as Michele Daubman doubled home a run in the bottom of the first to put the Rams up 1-0.
Behind a strong performance from Daubman, the Rams would hold that lead into the fourth frame. It was then that Lehigh stringed together a couple hits to drive across three runs, giving the Mountain Hawks a 3-1 advantage at the end of the frame.
The Rams failed to push anything across the plate over the remainder of the game, as Rebecca Bliss held Fordham to just three hits over their final four frames, picking up the complete game victory in the process.
Much like in game one, the Rams threatened early at the plate in the twin-bill's second affair. LaBovick bombed a double to start off the home half of the first, giving the Rams a runner in scoring position with no outs. Lehigh hurler Emily Bausher quickly regained her composure; however, as she retired the next three Rams in-order to get out of trouble.
The Rams were the first to score in game number two, as Paige Ortiz singled home a run in the fourth to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.
But after four stellar innings from freshman pitcher Patti Maloney, Lehigh got her number in the fifth. Having surrendered only one hit through the first four frames, Fordham surrendered five runs in the inning.
The Mountain Hawks maintained their lead from there, as Emily Bausher picked up the complete game victory. Bausher surrendered one run on four hits and struck out four en route to picking up her eighth win of the year.
The Rams return to Atlantic 10 action this weekend. They head to Saint Louis for games against the Billikens on Friday and Saturday before heading north to Indianapolis to face Butler in a doubleheader on Sunday.
