Philadelphia, Pa. -
La Salle's Dan Klem had two hits, while Kevin Baron had a two-run single in the third, as the Explorers topped the Fordham Rams for the second straight day at Hank DeVincent Field by a score of 3-1.
The loss drops Fordham to 10-10 on the year, 0-2 in the league, while La Salle improved to 6-12 overall, 2-0 in the Atlantic 10.
After two scoreless innings, La Salle cracked the scoreboard in the third with a two-run single by Kevin Baron, scoring Mark Willams, who had doubled, and Collin McGowan, who drawn a walk.
The tightly fought contest remained that way until the eighth, where the Rams cut the deficit to 2-1. Sam Careccia opened with a single to left, and moved to second on a catcher's interference call when Dan Sorine was at the plate. A wild pitch moved the runners up a base with Careccia scoring on a ground out by Tim Swatek.
La Salle though got the run right back in the bottom of the frame, as Klem doubled down the right field line, stole third, and scored on an error.
La Salle's Pat Christensen was able to get the final three outs in the ninth for his third save of the season and second in as many days. La Salle starter Shane Hollman got the win, allowing just three hits and striking out four over six innings of work.
For Fordham, Chris Pike (1-3) was the hard luck loser, tossing a complete game and allowing two earned runs on four hits. The Rams' offense only mustered five hits on the day from five different players.
The same two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday with a noon contest.
