Game One Stats | Game Two Stats
Despite holding late leads in each game, the Fordham Rams suffered a pair of losses to Charlotte on Friday afternoon, falling 10-8 in the first contest and 9-7 in the second game.
Game One
The Rams jumped out to an early lead in the first game of a twin bill against Charlotte, but the 49ers rallied late to come away with the 10-8 over Fordham on Friday afternoon.
After two outs to start the top of the first, reigning A-10 Player of the Week Elise Fortier ripped a two-out double followed by walks from Gabby Luety and Kayla Lombardo to load the bases. In stepped Michele Daubman, and the sophomore from Long Island smacked a two-run single to put the Rams up 2-0.
Neither team pushed anything across over the next inning, but Charlotte exploded in the bottom of the second, scoring five runs in the frame and jumping out to a three run lead.
Fortier, however, answered back right away in the top of the third, leading off the inning with a solo shot to left field, narrowing the deficit to two, 5-3.
After Jamie LaBovick held the 49ers scoreless in the bottom of the third, the Rams scored three runs in the top of the fourth despite not getting a hit. Walks to Fortier, Luety, Lombardo and Daubman coupled with a Charlotte passed ball allowed three runs to cross the plate and the Rams to grab a 6-5 lead.
LaBovick blanked the 49ers in the home half of the fourth and the Rams jumped out again in the top of the fifth. LaBovick and Luety ripped RBI singles, knocking home one run apiece and pushing the Rams ahead by three, 8-5.
Charlotte got one across in the bottom of the fifth, narrowing the Rams' lead to two.
After the Rams went scoreless in the top of the sixth, Charlotte rallied for four runs on five hits in the bottom half of the inning, giving the 49ers the 10-8 advantage with which they would end the game.
Game Two
Much like in the first game of the afternoon, a big sixth inning for Charlotte proved detrimental to Fordham's hopes of grabbing a win in the Queen City, as the 49ers scored three in the home half of the sixth to grab a 9-7 win in the second game of the double header.
The 49ers scored five runs on five hits in the home half of the first, but the Rams began to battle their way back in the top of the third. LaBovick started off the inning with a double before moving to third on a Sammi Smith single. Luety scored LaBovick from third on a sac fly and a Lombardo scored Smith on a single after she stole second.
The Rams gave one back in the bottom of the inning, but responded with another pair of runs in the top of the fourth. LaBovick smashed a two-RBI double to pull Fordham within two, 6-4, after three and a half.
Daubman settled down in the circle, and the Rams' bats came up big once again. A Fortier double to left with the bases juiced brought home two runs to tie the game at six and, two batters later, Smith drew a HBP with three runners on base to give Fordham the lead, 7-6, after five and a half.
Unfortunately for the Rams, Charlotte responded with three runs of their own, including a two-run home run from Chelsea Ingersoll, in the bottom half of the frame to take the lead, 9-7.
The 49ers held onto that lead for the remainder of the contest, sweeping the double-header.
