Bronx, N.Y. - The Fordham baseball team looked for a solid outing on Wednesday as the Rams head into Atlantic 10 play this coming weekend at La Salle. On the hill, Fordham got a career-long outing seven innings from J.C. Porter, but the Rams ran into a stingy Hofstra bullpen, as the Pride won the contest at Houlihan Park by a 5-1 score.

With the loss, Fordham moves to 10-8 on the season, while Hofstra improved to 5-14.

Fordham had the first scoring chances in the opening two innings, as the Rams loaded the bases on three occasions. In the first, Fordham was hit by two pitches and an infield single by Ryan McNally loaded the bases with two outs. Mike Mauri was then apparently hit by a pitch, but the umpire ruled that the ball hit the knob of the bat, continuing the at bat. Hofstra starter Michael Isom then struck out Mauri looking to end the threat.

In the second, Ian Edmiston led off with a single up the middle and moved to second on a single to left center by Joseph DeVito. Matthew Cianci was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for Joseph Runco. Runco plated Edmiston with an RBI-ground out for a 1-0 lead. Tim Swatek drew another walk to re-load the bases with two outs, but Isom again got out of the jam with a strikeout of Charles Galiano.

Fordham starter J.C. Porter was solid over the first five innings, allowing just two hits, but gave up a run in the sixth to tie the game at one. Taylor Stuart led off the sixth with a single up the middle, stole second, and eventually scored on a ground out.

The game came down to a couple of Fordham miscues in the eighth, leading to four Hofstra runs and a 5-1 lead for the Pride.

The Hofstra bullpen would hold Fordham in check, holding the Rams without a hit over the final five innings, posting five strikeouts. Andrew Barbarino (1-0) earned the win, pitching one scoreless inning in the seventh.

Porter (1-1) was the hard luck loser for Fordham, pitching a career-long seven innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts. At the plate, Fordham was held to four hits, two of which came from DeVito.

The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Friday, March 22nd, when the Rams travel to Philadelphia to face the La Salle Explorers for the team's A-10 opener, beginning at 3:00 PM.
