Clearwater, Fla. - The Fordham University softball team had yesterday's scheduled contest with Boston University rained out so they had plenty of energy today and it showed, as the Rams collected nine hits, including a pair of home runs from Gabby Luety and one each from Jamie LaBovick and Elise Fortier, in a 9-1 win over the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Eddie C. Moore Field in a game shortened to five inning by the mercy rule.

With the win, Fordham's seventh straight, the Rams improve to 12-9 on the year while Chattanooga falls to 14-12.

After a scoreless first inning, the Rams got on the board in the bottom of the second as Luety led off the frame with a solo home run.

Fordham made it a 4-0 game with three in the third. Paige Ortiz started things with a single and Jessica Crowley came on to pinch run for her. Claudia Law sacrificed Crowley to second and Jamie LaBovick followed with her second home run of the year. One out later, Fortier gave the Rams a 4-0 lead with a solo shot to left, her fourth round tripper of the year.

After the Lady Mocs picked up an unearned run in the top of the fifth, the Rams scored five in the home half of the inning, all with two outs, to take a commanding 9-1 lead. Ortiz got the rally started with a one-out single before being eliminated at second on a Law fielder's choice. LaBovick advanced Law to second with a single and both runners moved up a base on a passed ball. Sammi Smith plated Law with a bunt single with LaBovick coming around to score from second when the Chattanooga second baseman misplayed the ball. After Smith stole second, Fortier walked. Luety then brought both runners in with her second home run of the game, her team-leading sixth of the season.

Fordham starter Michelle Daubman allowed a one-out triple in the top of the fifth before striking out Alyssa Taylor and inducing Anyssa Robles to ground out to end the game.

Luety finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate with the two home runs and four RBI while LaBovick was a perfect 2-for-2 with the home run and two RBI and Ortiz was also 2-for-2.

Daubman went the distance in the circle for Fordham, throwing five innings of three-hit ball, striking out four, to improve to 5-2 on the year.

The Rams return to action on Friday, March 15, as they open play at the James Madison Invitational in Harrisonburg, Virginia, by facing the host school, James Madison University, at 3:00 p.m.
