BRONX, N.Y. - Just about 12 hours after blanking a nationally acclaimed Virginia Tech team, senior Jamie LaBovick stepped into the circle once again, this time giving up only one run and striking out eight to push the Rams past Chattanooga in the final game of the Dot Richardson Collegiate Invitational.

The win moved the Rams to 4-1 on the season following their first weekend of play, while Chattanooga fell to 1-4.

The Rams and Mocs focused nearly all their offensive output in the third frame. With Fordham playing as the visiting team, Jessica Crowley led off the top of the third with a solo shot, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead. After LaBovick and Sammi Smith made out, Elise Fortier stepped to the plate and sent one over the fence, pushing Fordham ahead by two runs.

In the bottom of the third, LaBovick made quick work of the first two Chattanooga batters before Sara Poteat legged out a three-bagger for the Mocs. DH Tyler Templet singled home Poteat from third in the following at-bat, but LaBovick closed out the inning to preserve the 2-1 lead.

LaBovick allowed six more hits over the course of the next four innings, but the Mocs never managed to get a run across.

With one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Templet hit a liner to Fortier at short who then fired over to Kayla Lombardo at third to get the double play and secure the Fordham victory.

Offensively, Fortier and Crowley's home runs proved to be all that Fordham needed, but Smith put in another solid performance, going 2-4 at the dish.

The Rams will enjoy a long break before playing again, when they begin the NFCA Leadoff Classic on February 23rd against DePaul in Clearwater, Fla.
