UNCG Game Notes
After enjoying a nice, long Christmas break, it's back to business for the Rams on Sunday afternoon, as Coach Gaitley's squad kicks off the Seventh Annual Fordham Holiday Classic against the University of North Carolina-Greensboro at 1 PM.
SERIES HISTORY: The Rams and Spartans have met twice before, playing each other in consecutive seasons in 2008-09 and 2009-2010. Â UNCG took both of those games, winning the first by an 11 point margin at home before beating the Rams by six in the Rose Hill Gym the following year.
SCOUTING UNCG: Â The Spartans enter Sunday's contest on a four game slide, having lost to Clemson, Chattanooga, Samford, and St. Bonaventure over the last four weeks. Â
On the season, the Spartans are allowing their opponents to shoot nearly 47 percent from the floor, the eighth-worst mark in the nation. Â One area in which UNCG has excelled, however, has been getting to the charity stripe, attempting 24.1 free throws per game.
Individually, three Spartans are averaging at least ten points per game, led by Lucy Mason with 13.4 per outing. Â Janae' Stevenson is right behind her with 12.1 points, while also pulling down a team-best 8.8 boards per game. Â Stevenson has six double-doubles on the year, good enough for 23rd in the nation.
On the bench, UNCG's director of basketball operations, Jade Leitao, closed out her playing career at Fordham, making 30 starts in 2005-06 for Jim Lewis' Rams.
The winner of this game will take on the winner of Harvard vs. Tulsa, to be played thirty minutes following the conclusion of the match up between the Rams and the Spartans.
