For 85 minutes, the Fordham men's soccer team put forth an incredible effort, testing the La Salle Explorers' defense and goalkeeper a number of times, which only superb efforts by La Salle's John McCarthy kept the Rams off the scoreboard.  Unfortunately, in the last five minutes, La Salle's most dangerous player, Jason Plumhoff got loose scoring twice in less than a minute to give the Explorers the 2-0 win at Jack Coffey Field.

With the loss, Fordham falls to 5-10-1 overall, 2-4-1 in the Atlantic 10, while La Salle improved to 7-7-3 on the year, 4-2-1 in the league.

The match began with Fordham's Michael Stalker earning three strong scoring chances down the left side, but all three were knocked away by La Salle goalkeeper John McCarthy.

Fordham continued the pressure late in the period and into the second, as Stalker's classmate Taylor Gulbins got into the act, getting on the end of a couple of headers toward goal.  His best chance came in the 72nd minute, when Gulbins made a diving header at goal, but was denied again by McCarthy, making a fingertip stop.

That bad luck for Fordham turned into a deficit in the 86th minute, as Glenroy Chapman found Jason Plumhoff for a one-time shot that found the back of the net.  It was Plumhoff's ninth goal of the season.

Just moments later, the same La Salle combination made it 2-0, this time on a header by Plumhoff from six yards out.

In net, McCarthy made nine saves in the shutout for La Salle, while Fordham's Alex Naples made five stops.

The Fordham men's soccer team will next be in action on Sunday, November 10th, when the Rams host Saint Joseph's at 1:00 PM on Jack Coffey Field.
