The seeds for the CWPA Championship at Brown University from November 22-24 were announced today, as the Championship expanded to a 12-team tournament this season with a number of at-large berths up for grabs. Of those at-large teams, one will be the Fordham Rams, as they earned the final at-large spot and will be seeded 12
th.
The Rams' first match will be on Friday, November 22
nd, against a familiar foe in Brown University, who was seeded fifth overall. Fordham and Brown have already met three times this season, which included an opening round match at this past weekend's Northern Division Championship.
For Fordham, it is the team's third berth at the CWPA Championship (formerly known as the Eastern Championship) in the last five seasons.
The top six seeds were based on the top three finishing teams from the Northern & Southern Championship, while the fourth and fifth place finishers (Mercyhurst, Johns Hopkins) from the Southern Division were guaranteed slots in the field, but will fall into the mix with the four at-large teams for seeding between No. 7-to-12.
The at-large picks (GW, MIT, Iona, Fordham) were selected by the Varsity Governance Council of
Lauren Packer Webster (Assistant Director of Athletics, Mercyhurst University),
Dave Fontaine (Director of Athletics, Utica College),
Gary Brown (Assistant Director of Athletics, Harvard University),
Chris Hennelly (Assistant Director of Athletics, George Washington University) and
Kim Fierke (Director of Athletics, Hartwick College), as the group was charged with selecting the four best teams from the remaining 11 programs in the league.
