VCU Downs Fordham

Welcoming the number one team in the conference to your home floor is never an easy task, and unfortunately for the Fordham Rams, it was an undertaking with which they were charged on Friday night.  Top-seeded VCU downed Fordham in straight sets in the Rose Hill Gym.
 
With the loss, the Rams fall to 8-16, 1-7 in the A-10.  VCU improves to 21-5 following the victory, with an 8-1 mark in conference play.

Lisa Hipp led the Rams on the evening with eight kills, while Carina Thompson added seven and Brennan Delsing chipped in six.  On the defensive end, Maria Rodenberg tallied 12 digs.
 
VCU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first, but the Rams answered back with a 5-0 run of their own.  VCU got back on top a few points later and began to build its lead more substantially toward the middle of the set.  The Rams from Richmond went on to take the set 25-17.
 
Fordham came out swinging in the second, going point for point with VCU before grabbing a two point advantage at 11-9.  The Rams maintained their lead over the next few points, but then VCU uncorked a 6-0 run to grab a four point edge at 18-14.  VCU went on to close out the set 25-18. 
 
Needing a win in set number three, Fordham grabbed the stanza's first two points before VCU went on to take the next four.  The Rams would get back within one at 13-12, but VCU controlled the set from there, winning the set 25-17 and clinching the match.
 
Fordham has two home games remaining in 2013, with their next contest coming on Sunday afternoon against La Salle at 1 PM.
