Fans at Tuesday night's volleyball match between Fordham and Fairleigh Dickinson might have thought they were on a roller coaster, as the Rams won the first two sets and had match point in the third before the Knights came back to win sets three and four in extra points. Then in the fifth set, the Rams came back from an 8-6 deficit to pull out the five-set victory at the Rose Hill Gym. Final set scores were 26-24, 25-19, 25-27, 24-26, and 15-9.

With the win, Fordham improved to 2-7 on the season, while Fairleigh Dickinson moved to 3-6.

In what was a common theme throughout the evening, set one had seven tie scores with the last at 24 all. The Rams then earned set point on a Knight error and followed with a kill by Brianna O'Neil to win the opening set. O'Neil finished with a team-high four kills in the set.

Set two saw the Rams in control from the start, as the team hit .357 and cruised to a six-point set win. Individually, Brennan Delsing was the big point producer with three kills and three service aces in the set.

The match looked like it was going to be a sweep, as Fordham got match point at 24-22 on a Fairleigh Dickinson service error. The Rams then committed a service error, which was followed by a Knight kill to tie the score at 24. A kill by Carina Thompson gave Fordham another chance at the sweep, but Abigail Konovodoff was called for a block error on Meaghan Wheeler's attack, tying the score again. FDU then picked up two points on Wheeler's serve to extend the match.

The fourth set also went long, as with the Rams leading 23-21, FDU earned three straight points for set point. Delsing was able to knock down a kill to tie the score at 24, but the Knights picked up points on two straight Fordham errors to force a deciding set.

In the fifth set, things did not look good for Fordham as the Knights led 8-6 on the changeover. However, the Rams had a final rally, scoring nine of the next ten points to win the set and the match with the final point coming on a Konovodoff service ace.

For Fordham, Lisa Hipp and Brianna O'Neil each registered double-doubles with Hipp having a team-high 14 kills and 13 digs, while O'Neill had 11 kills and 10 digs. Thompson added 12 kills and six blocks with Delsing having 12 kills, six digs, and four service aces. Konovodoff also had a strong match posting a season-high 45 assists, four kills, four blocks, three aces, and seven digs. Defensively, Maria Rodenberg had a match-high 19 digs.

The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Friday, September 7th, when the Rams open the 12th Annual Rose Hill Classic against the Cornell Big Red at 11:30 AM, followed by a 7:00 PM match against Stony Brook.
