The Fordham water polo team opened its home schedule on Saturday, earning a split of two CWPA matches. The Rams earned a 12-6 victory over Connecticut College in the afternoon match, while 13th-ranked Brown topped Fordham, 17-7.
In match one, Fordham scored the first five goals of the game, and would not relinquish that lead in a 12-6 win over Connecticut College.
Nicholas Allen started the scoring in the first quarter, netting the first two goals of the game, one of which with the man-advantage. Patrick Lenihan and Davis DeFontes followed with Fordham markers, giving the Rams a 4-0 lead after the first period.
Andrew Gonzalez opened the second period with an extra-man goal before Connecticut College got on the board. After trading goals made it a 6-2 game, Allen and Gonzalez each scored an extra-man goal to make it 8-2 at the half.
Fordham and Connecticut College each registered two goals in the third and fourth periods to finish off a 12-6 Fordham win.
For the Rams, Gonzalez and Allen each had three goals in the game, while Alex Judge scored twice. Bobby Wurtz and DeFontes each had a goal and an assist, while Lenihan and Daniel Barron recorded a goal, an assist, and two steals. Ben Clinkinbeard also returned to the Rams' line-up dishing out three assists to go with two steals.
In goal, Noah LeBeau had seven saves in the victory.
In match two, Brown's Svetozar Stefanovic tallied five goals, as the 13th-ranked Bears topped the Rams 17-7.
Fordham trailed 4-1 after the first quarter and stayed within striking distance at 8-4 at the half. Brown though took control in the third quarter as Stefanovic scored three of the Bears' five goals in the frame to lead 13-5 and go on to the victory.
For Fordham, Wurtz had two goals and an assist, while Judge had a pair of goals. Allen chipped in a goal, two assists, and two steals, with Barron and Dan Kearney recording the Rams' final two goals.
The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on October 4th, when the Rams head out west to face Mt. St. Antonio and Cal-Baptist.
