The Fordham water polo team wrapped up play at the Navy Invitational on Sunday with matches against the University of Toronto and Johns Hopkins University.
In the first match, Toronto edged out the Rams, 12-11, in overtime.
The score was tied at 10 through three periods, but neither team could score in the fourth, forcing overtime. In overtime, Toronto outscored the Rams, 2-1, to pull out the one-goal victory.
For Fordham, Andrew Gonzalez and Davis DeFontes led the way with three goals each, while Nicholas Allen and Patrick Reyes each netted two. Bobby Wurtz rounded out the scoring with a single marker. In net, Noah LeBeau made 10 saves.
In match two, Johns Hopkins topped the Rams, 13-3.
The Blue Jays held a 4-0 lead after the first quarter, with the Rams closing it to 4-2 by halftime. However, Johns Hopkins outscored Fordham, 9-1 in the second half to seal the win.
For Fordham, Gonzalez, Allen, and Peter Bergum scored for the Rams, while in goal, LeBeau had four saves in three quarters of play with Patrick Harrigan having five saves in the final quarter.
The Fordham water polo team will next be in action on September 22nd, as the team opens conference play in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Rams will play at Harvard at 1:00 PM and at MIT at 7:00 PM.
