The Fordham volleyball team continued its winning ways on Saturday, posting victories over Providence and Quinnipiac to win the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa.
With the tournament win, the Rams improved to 8-9 on the season.
In the opening match of the day, Fordham's Randi Ewing led the way with 12 kills and a .688 hitting percentage, as the Rams swept a three-set match from Providence. Final set scores were 25-16, 27-25, and 25-16.
After winning the first set comfortably, Fordham needed a comeback effort to win set two. The Rams trailed 23-19, before scoring five of the next six points to knot the score at 24. After consecutive sideouts, Fordham got kills from Lisa Hipp and Brennan Delsing to close out a 27-25 set win.
Set three was again all Fordham, as the Rams led by as many as nine, en route to the three-set sweep.
Besides Ewing, Hipp recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs to go with two aces, while Carina Thompson had nine kills. Sara Konkel dished out 42 assists to go with three blocks, and two aces with Maria Rodenberg having nine digs and two aces.
In match two, the Rams rolled over Quinnipiac in four sets, 25-13, 25-14, 19-25, and 25-8, as the Rams held the Bobcats to a -.078 hitting percentage. The Rams played solid defense throughout the match, recording 11 team blocks.
For Fordham, Brennan Delsing posted a match-high 12 kills to go with four digs, and five blocks, while Thompson had nine kills and five blocks. Brianna O'Neil also added seven kills and seven digs with Konkel registering 27 assists, seven digs and three blocks. Defensively, Rodenberg had a match-high 13 digs to go with three assists, and two aces.
Following the conclusion of the tournament, both Ewing and Delsing were selected to the Bucknell Invitational All-Tournament team.
The Fordham volleyball team will next be in action on Tuesday, September 18th, when the Rams travel to Hofstra for a 7:00 PM match.
