Water Polo Begins Play at the Navy Invitational

Annapolis, Md. - Slowed a bit by illness and injury, the Fordham water polo team still made its way to Annapolis, Maryland on Saturday for the two-day Navy Invitational. On day one, the Rams came up on the short end in both matches, falling to Washington & Jefferson and 15th-ranked Navy.

In the opening match of the day, Fordham could not hold off Washington & Jefferson, falling by a 13-10 count.

The Rams led throughout, eventually taking a 9-8 lead in the fourth quarter, but a five-goal final period gave Washington & Jefferson the victory.

For Fordham, Nicholas Allen led the scoring with four goals, while Peter Bergum netted three markers. Davis DeFontes, Patrick Lenihan, and Landon Kern rounded out the rest of the Fordham scoring. In goal, Noah LeBeau played the first half, making six saves, while Patrick Harrigan made four stops in the second half.

In the night cap, the Rams fell to #15 Navy, 19-6.

For the Rams, Lenihan registered three goals and two assists, while Bobby Wurtz, Andrew Gonzalez, and Kern each had one goal. Daniel Barron also recorded two assists for the Rams. In goal, LeBeau and Harrigan once again split the goalkeeper duties with LeBeau making five stops and Harrigan having two.

The Fordham water polo team will conclude play at the Navy Invitational with two matches on Sunday against the University of Toronto and Johns Hopkins.
