Volleyball Opens Bucknell Invitational With A Victory Over The Bison

Lewisburg, Pa. - Behind a stellar hitting performance by freshman Brennan Delsing and good team defense, the Fordham volleyball team earned a three-set sweep of the Bucknell Bison in the opening match for both teams at the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa. Final set scores were 28-26, 25-22, and 25-9.

With the win, Fordham has won five of its last seven matches to improve to 6-9 overall, while Bucknell fell to 4-7.

Each of the first two sets were extremely tight down the stretch. In set one, Fordham closed out the set with a kill and a block from Lisa Hipp to earn the two-point victory, while in set two, the score was tied at 21 before Fordham reeled off four of the next five points to win the set, three of which were kills by Hipp.

Set three was all Fordham, as the Rams had an 8-0 run, a 10-1 run, and a .462 hitting percentage to finish off the Bison in straight sets.

For Fordham, Brennan Delsing led the way with 15 kills and a .636 hitting percentage, while Lisa Hipp had 13 kills, seven digs, and four blocks. Sara Konkel got her first start of the season at setter and was solid with 34 assists and seven digs with Carina Thompson and Randi Ewing each adding six kills. Defensively, Maria Rodenberg added a match-high 13 digs to go with seven assists and two aces.

The Fordham volleyball team concludes play at the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday, September 15th, when the Rams face Providence at 10:00 AM and Quinnipiac at 3:00 PM.
