Fairfield's Larry Cornelia and Billy Zolga each had three hits, while Jeremy Soule allowed just four hits over 5.1 innings of work, as the Stags shut out the Fordham Rams, 9-0 at Alumni Baseball Diamond in Fairfield, Connecticut.
With the loss, Fordham falls to 11-18 on the season, while Fairfield improved to 11-17.
Fairfield opened the scoring with two runs in the third on a two-run single by Jack Giannini.
The Stags tacked on another pair of runs in the fifth for a 4-0 lead, scoring runs on an RBI-ground out and an error.
Fairfield then put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, highlighted by a two-run double by Cornelia and RBI-hits from Anthony Hajjar, Ryan Plourde, and Mark Skrapits.
Fordham managed just six hits against the Fairfield pitching trio of Jeremy Soule, Chris Kalica, and Gavin McCullough. Soule (2-2) earned the win, with Kalica tossing 2.2 hitless innings of relief, while McCullough allowed two hits in one inning of work.
Fordham starter John Porter (2-3) took the loss giving up two runs on five hits in three innings. Jordan Grangard (1 IP, 2 H), Jonathan Reich (2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 K's), Rich Anastasi (1 IP, 6 H, 5 ER), and Jeremy Adel (1 IP, 1 H) also saw action on the hill for Fordham.
At the plate, Mike Mauri was 2-for-3, while Joseph Conway recorded his first career hit, a double in the second inning. Ryan Lee, Stephen McSherry, and Joseph Calabrese had the remaining hits.
The Fordham baseball team will next be in action on Friday, April 6th, when the Rams begin a three-game series against the Temple Owls at Houlihan Park, beginning at 11:00 AM.
